Monster Hunt & Leaderboard Information

The following notes have been generally consistent from season to season.

* Check you can spawn monsters!
* Pink Skunkupines don't drop tokens when you defeat them. They might spawn from pink and wedding alicorns.
* Gem horses may not spawn glimmer trolls.
* Trolls may be included but they change from being included season to season.
* Monsters also drop their normal items in addition to the tokens.
* Do the Bronze Hunter Trade if you are nearly maxed on Shield tokens so that they don't go to waste.
* A Level 5 Jousting Arena will spawn a monster on every collection. Link to Jousting Arena Renovations thread.
* The Mythic Research Center (from L22) crafts are available to craft anytime if you have the tokens.
* If it's your first Monster Hunt, the new trades might appear after you do 1 of any trade in the Trade Wagon.
* Remember to collect from Princess Lorelei's fountain for a chance at gold tokens (about a 1 in 3 drop rate)

* BLUE DIRE BOARS will only spawn once a day.

Anyone else having trouble getting in game? Galloping knight! Have hard closed and it lasted about three minutes before back to horse!

I can't find the comment now, but someone had asked in a different thread how S8 assigns people to the leaderboards and if others have the experience of being placed with the same players over and over again, and I can confirm that I am having that experience now. I am in with someone who, during the last leaderboard, got an absolutely ridiculous amount of points. I don't understand the reasoning for spending that much on boost and so forth to get that high when you've already reached all the goals and the next nearest competitor (me) is thousands and thousands of points below you. If the leaderboards in CS worked the same way as they do in Dragon Story, where there is actually a global leaderboard with exclusive prizes for those who play all around the world, I could see it, but not in this game. Anyway, so, yeah, I already know that I don't have a chance at first place because I am in with this person, and that is ok because I don't need the top prize, anyway. It would be nice to get 20 trade tickets, but I often max out on trade tickets and don't realize it until I get a black flag for them, anyway. Hmph!

The leader in my group instantly shot up to thousands of points too lol. I decided this hunt to focus on cows and chickens, I am getting the new spawn but also lots of fangbeasts so I
can be collecting the unfortunate amount of hair of the beasts that we need. I'm using the milk and chickens in the trade ticket trade and will be able to get the sea wyvern prize at 2300 points so win win

They are showing farmhouses in the featured section too, does it give the new spawn??

*edit* new monsters are spawning from cows and pigs, I'm just collecting from chickens to get fangbeasts and eggs for doing trade ticket trade...

About two hours ago I got into the game and brought up all the information and the tasks for the event. Well I wasted all my energy 40 anyway they had build up and no monsters came up In the horses or I’m not sure whether they come up with the cows or they come out with your houses I need confirmation on this. But it looks like my game is not working as far as the event is concerned please help

Is it the chickens and cows that are spawning the monster? Because nothing was working for me not the animals the horses or the houses I wasted so much energy

Are you sure there wasn't already a monster spawned somewhere in your kingdom? I've made that mistake before.

My understanding is that you are assigned a group depending on when you start the monster hunt.

Sometimes players with hundreds of thousands of energy don't even use boosts. I have a few thousand energy and can shoot up pretty quickly without having to use boosts. Sometimes the players are not even trying to win the leaderboard but are just trying to get as many gold tokens so they can craft as many creatures in the Mythic research center as they can in the hunt. This is why so many of us hate leaderboards. I wish we had an opt out of the leaderboard while still being able to participate in the hunt itself.
I have no interest in winning this one since the prize drops things I am always maxed out on. But there are creatures I want to craft so I'll end up giving the folks on my leaderboard a bit of a run and I'm not even trying to do that :-/

How do you get thousands of energy stored up?

I would like to know why when I get a pop up saying that I earned 2-3 points when hitting a monster that my tally is only credited 1. This happened to me with the last contest also. I feel like I?m being *****ed out of hundreds of points here.

That's pretty much exactly what I was going to post!

When the LBs were separate and exclusive 'Royal Faire' events, I simply sat them out; or, if the prize looked great, I'd get together with the others in my list so we could tie for top. As soon as they tied the LB to the Hunt itself they pretty much tied our hands from being able to do that. Of course, that was probably a lot of their reasoning for doing it - it's a smart move on their part from a business standpoint but not such a great move for those of us who dislike the LB format.

Yep. It's a real shame. Since the creatures can be crafted in any hunt I was thinking of sitting this out. But then I'm also working on The Council goals and working on Windchaser permits. So beasts will be hunted unfortunately lol and tokens will be obtained and leaderboard points will be earned.

Those pop ups are misleading. If you tap your monster and wait about 1 second, they tally correctly. But if you tap your beast quickly, the pop ups are showing 2 points, because they lag behind your taps. The accurate count is up there in the upper right corner.

Storing energy comes after long time playing and having several energy droppers. Your energy collected slowly outnumber energy used. It takes a long time to get there. Unless you forgo gameplay and just collect energy.

I amass thousands of points sometimes because I want to get gold tokens rather than because I care where I am on the leaderboard. I am currently saving for my 4th weekly boar so have to collect 90 tokens. That equates to a lot of points. As I have over 30,000 energy stored I can collect as many tokens as I want.

I have already fought a purple golem and blue dire boar and two fangbeast…but for some reason my count is only 7. :( I really don’t care about the final prize, just want enough points to get the gold coins…

Do you mean your LB count in the right-hand side icon is only 7? Have you triggered the LB? You need to open the screen and see your name on the ranking tab. You should also confirm you're on the latest version of the game (in game, on the Menu/Help screen in the lower right corner in the light brown border area...mine says 2.3.3)

I've had the same thing happening in the past.
The problem for me was that the monster hunt was be***, but the leader board part of the event was not properly loaded yet. (or I wasn't yet assigned a group)
In the future, before you start fighting, make sure you're part of a group, and make sure you have a counter on the right side of your screen, displaying your point total.
If you don't see those things yet, force close and/ or wait a couple of minutes.
When you do see the counter, keep an eye on it while fighting, checking if your point total goes up.

I'm prioritizing all energy droppers over almost everything else, so I would go for the Alicolt.
But it depends on where you are in the game, and if you still cook a lot. (if you like cooking stuff, and you'll use it 7 days a week, it's a good investment)
There are no wrong choices luckily :D

And what is up with the crowns I have won? They do not show in inventory and I can not find any info about this. What does it do?
I appreciate if someone can explain things to me.

Welcome! I hope you find the forum helpful. There is a great group of people here who share what works for them.

Do not worry about making the armored sea wyvern this time. Your goal should be to get the 1140 hits for the Blue Sea Wyvern if you can and to make as many gold troll tokens as possible.
It sounds like you have already crafted the Mythic Research Center if you can see that it requires orange shells. Do not worry, that craft will be available forever and if you want to craft that animal after you have started the Mermaid storyline (which gives you the orange shells and pearls) you will be able to. Every monster hunt they come out with a new animal people can craft, but the craft will remain for the future hunts as well.

For the crowns, they do not go into inventory. They are used to purchase walkers/citizens for your kingdom. You can find how many you have by clicking Market in the bottom corner and then going to the Town Square. The total number of crowns you have is underneath the walkers you can buy.

I hope this helps but be sure to check the links Spiritwind has in the first post for some great tips and info about Monster Hunts.

Wow. I'm a long time forum reader and I did not realize that the Untamed Alicolts dropped energy.
I knew Alicorns did , but not the mini versions.
I'll push on thru with those expensive dire boars, but now I know what I'll go for next.

I am really HATING monster hunts.

Before max level, they were at least fairly evenly matched and kinda fun. Usually had 5-6 people neck and neck right until the end. Still dumb that not everyone can get the prizes, but more fun than now. Since max level? It's pointless.

Yesterday around 5pm PST, the top people were already over 6k points. What even is the point of trying to play this event? I don't need anything the blue wyvern drops.

I am really incredibly frustrated, because the top 2 prize....drops energy. Which gives even more energy pool to the top people, which means even higher scores next time.

Even using the 10gem boost, and a couple thousand energy I'm only at 1.7k. With constant crafting of the helm (15pts) by the way.

And the gems. I accumulate quite a few from both the bronze and gold trades (not every trade, but frequently) by the end of a MH.

An added bonus this round is the fangbeasts - I run through my farmhouses whenever I open the game and often pick up one or two. I may actually meet the five fangbeast daily goals for a change!

IMO it's not the Monster Hunt, it's the Leader Board that sucks the joy out of it. I think the Pearlescent Wyvern is gorgeous, but can't get it.

I remember a MH awhile back where we could craft older critters, including some previous Leaderboard first prizes. I spent real $$ on that event, to craft what I could!
