It depends what category your animal falls in to. These are the total food costs depending on the category.
A 11 130
B 24 315
C 44 930
D 96 660
E 138 325
During the story books I'm sure we usual get one from category c and one from category d to feed.

I'm stuck in chapter 8's act 'Hatch a Turtisle'. Since I started trying to breed one (and it was even before day 8), I got an ocean owl, 2 seamurs and a sea horse, and I can't seem to get a Turtisle!! That has never happened to me before, I never had any problems to breed a common animal. The thing is, I now have like a day and a half to complete the last 3 chapters and I don't know if I should spend gems to speed up the breeding process because I don't know if I like the final prize that much, I love the dog and the cat that I already have, but the elephant... (Besides, I already leveled up the cat to level 15 so I 'wasted' an important amount of food ).
