The game drops out when the connection isn't strong enough. Lots of contributing factors. Info in linked post on things to try.
How old is your device? I had an older iPad and my game crashed constantly or wouldn't open at all. I tried all the suggestions from the thread above to resolve the problem. The only thing that helped a little was to remove all roads and decorations and limit the number of buildings on the board.
I recently got a new iPad 4 and transferred my game. That completely resolved all problems. Good luck!
