You find some room, calculate how to make it work for the storybook and take note for the next time you're about to win a prize that you don't want to hatch.
Certain animal prizes will go directly to the nest if your nest is empty when you win the prize. If you are trying to keep your nest open then the easiest way to prevent this auto placement is to place a fast hatching egg (such as pyro pony or pandaffodil) on your nest before completing the goal so that your prize bounces to storage.
