It can often be cheaper to buy the item separately than buy the "Skip" in the event.
How to do it.
Go to a building that requires the component you want say go to Deep Mine Level 5 and press to upgrade to Level 6.
The components will show up there and then press the component you want eg. Gold Nugget. I have enough Gold Nuggets so I cannot verify if there is a saving doing it this way.

It needs to be double the time ... have him standing in the second segment.
