I also lost the ability to make soothing balm in the potion shop although I have not started the challenge. I do still have the 'Track Checking' goal that requires the 5 balm.
I was supposed to get 25 energy from the exchange and all it gave me was a ticket with nothing. And it took my fish and everything. No nice. Would not be mad if it gave me an expansion permit instead. Please help

Chapter 2 Goal 1 - Visit old thomas house
Chapter 2 Goal 2 - grow the forest sapling
Forest sapling in potion shop takes 8 seeds and 10 water to craft time is 2 hours to craft
