Buying appliances.

As part of my goals I have to buy the melting pot. I'm trying to decide whether to take forever saving the 1750000 coins or use gems to buy it. Can anyone tell me if I buy it with gems will it count towards moving the goals along?

I've just spent over 2 million buying the pie oven and learning the lemon meringue recipe. As at this morning I had 1000 coins left. Now I've got to start all over again...ugh...boring!!
