Mastery Spice

Could anybody tell me the sense of using Mastery Spice? I used one for pizza but I did not notice any difference. Does it give only one XP point? Does it make a difference for what meal I will use it?
The growing time of vanilla is very long, so I was expecting that Mastery Spice will be really useful. Did I miss something?

You get an extra gold star towards mastery of the dish you add it to. So if you are working on the sandwich goals and add one mastery spice to French dip, you can cook one less French dip since you get two gold stars for one cook and can go from 20 out of 35 completed to 22 out of 35 when you finish cooking the dish with the mastery spice.

It is my favorite one !!
