Questions about Special Customers

I'm pretty new to RS2, trying to figure out the special customers. I know that they show up at timed intervals ... do you have to be actively playing to to take advantage of their visits, or if you are not on the game, will a visit be held and show up when you get back on? Also, in instances when your tables are full or you are out of food and the customer is turned away, will they come back again, or are you out of luck until the next timed visit? Thanks

If you've been away from the game for a while you usually find they visit within the first 10 minutes or so of logging back onto the game.

If they visit and are turned away they keep coming back until they get a table. Same happens if your toolbox is full and you can't collect parts from them, they come back in a few minutes later.
