Sam, I would agree Marshmallow better choice than Lightning and I would have made the same choice if I had Marshmallow (I don't). Like you, I don't understand the Forest win either.
Maybe you just got really unlucky with the random variable on this particular battle. I'd heal Marshmallow and go in again. I'd also take EnchantedG's advice and restart your device before the second attempt. Lose I could accept, lose miserably is a bit weird.
It is perhaps worth noting that Marshmallow is only Rare, not Super Rare (Lightning is Super Rare). I do think rarity comes into it, especially when there is also level disparity. Supposedly the factors are: level, rarity, strengths/weaknesses (colour/type) and the random variable (to mix it up a bit) but the mathematical relationships of those factors are unclear and quite possibly subject to "enhancement" or adjustment from time to time - that may be required due to the constant introduction of new dragons all the time.

DeeDe, Marshmallow is indeed Great Fighter and won several battles for me with few exceptions ! I was shocked to see that He lost almost ridiculous way ! Both Lightning n Marshmallow come very handy for me . Uptill now , I have never ever experienced the disparity in their Rariry and hence it was shocking to me . Any ways , The Battles in this game are definitely not based on Scientific way as it should be !

Oh, stevenlee2905, you amaze me with your Fire, Forest, Air successes. My three are useless 90% of the time. Having said that, they don't get the opportunities you give yours, because I expect mine to lose! Hard for them to win if I don't let them try, I suppose.
Now there is no tournament happening, I will give all three some trials.
My Island, Magic, Light and Water are all still languishing around the level 6 and 7. Fruitful I hide in the stable because I don't like him one little bit.
And I did. Now for a nice cup of coffee and the post-tournament Dragon Welcoming Party we have on our island, to welcome the new arrival. Have to get accommodation sorted.....

It seems that something Weird going on with Battles ! In Rd 28 , My Marshmallow lost miserably against Santa . Lightning sent Santa back in next Battle . now Rd 29 , Ying Yang ( Super Rare ) lost n then Bride of Franken Lv 9 also lost against Spooky Tree ! What Stupid randomness is this , that people win with Forest n Air , n Fruitful n Dragons with perfect choice are losing badly ! This is just Lottery n Some players are simply put to bad Luck for suffering losses !
Though Parakeet would never be my choice against Spooky Tree in Rd 29 , I tried Parakeet since Common Fruitful Lv10 won so naturally Super rare will have better chances n my Parakeet is Lv12. So even more Better ! but Parakeet Lv12 also lost ! Has the Game become Senseless ? It's height of Stupidity !
I simply can't believe , After 4 losses as above against Spooky Tree, and then Guardian Angel Lv15 n Hunter Lv12 Also lost , I tried my Quetzal Lv3 Baby -- My sweet Baby -- and Spooky tree was KO ! OMG ! Can't believe this ! Really Stupid Game !
