TOURNAMENT: River Runner - 2015 Sep 11

I just finished and had a pretty easy tournament up until round 17:

Day 3 went really well and I reached round 17 nice and early so an early finish would seem to be imminent. Well, nothing was less true! Try as they might, my epic Ancient Sloth and Aurora Pegasus just failed to take the Thorilla down! It's been a LONG time since I was stuck this long on a single round (i.e. 7 fails)! I was really disappointed especially that the Sloth couldn't get past it in its first FIVE attempts and then in between there were also TWO failed attempts from the Aurora Pegasus! So much for an early end. It was getting really late so the last two attempts on it were double-battled (at a total cost of 4 gems). In the end the Sloth won, but that was a most unimpressive performance from it!

So, the Sloth that works so well for everyone just didn't do any magic for me this tournament (or at best only at a slooooow sloth pace). :S

As promised in a different thread I gave the Gold Lion some more exercise by letting it have shots at rounds 2, 9, 10, 11 and 12. Good 'ole Ember is back with a VENGEANCE! He's a machine! He clearly demonstrated just why he's my number 1 fighter: despite it in theory having lesser odds against several opponents, e.g. against the Emerald Dragon it outperformed e.g. the Swan Prince which is an ultra rare and ought to be "doubly-strong" against the Emerald Dragon. In the 5 matches I let the Gold Lion fight, it completely whitewashed the opponents: that's 5 victories vs. 0 losses, and that includes a match against Egypt and against a level 16 Emerald Dragon!
Ember, you're still my number 1 fighter, and even though I have an epic Swan Prince, you're right back at the top selection of my A-team!

8 hours, 8 tries, 4 rounds, 4 level 20 opponents, 2 max losses on each round, 1 unlucky me. If I finish this it will be a miracle.

I finally beat my Plutopus...or did I...go back in to battle and there he is...obviously the game kicked me back...this is really irritating...just when you figure you might stand a chance of finishing...sorry try again. I guess the powers that be decided I didn't take enough tries (7 so far) to beat the Plutopus and wanted me to keep going...likelihood I am going to get the River Runner in the next 8 hours...pretty slim!!

I'd have to be pretty darn lucky to finish this tournament. I have four rounds left, but there's only time for seven more attempts (if I could even stay awake until midnight, I've been feeling pretty wiped out around 10 pm).

I'd really like for there to be fewer tournaments, such as two a month (one 18-round tournament, one 30-round tournament).

After my level 15 Crystal Unicorn lost to the River Runner, I gave my level 15 Matripony a shot and she beat the River Runner to complete the worst 18 round tournament I have had so far. Started off 10-1 but my final record was 18-28, see post # 3 for details.

The 28 losses were as many or more than I had in 11 of the 18 full 30-round tournaments. Coming on the heels of my worst 30 round tournament where I lost 22 times in 1 round, and the fact that I have only bred one new animal since July 17th, it almost makes me think that the game?s RNG is out to get me. At least I won the prize, and I couldn?t afford the nest time to hatch the River Runner if I had won it in time to get the gems.

I am disappointed in the poor performance of my 2 Ultra Rares in the last two tournaments. I was hoping that the Swan Prince would help out in the later rounds. The Swan Prince did score a surprise win in the 16th round when I mistakenly used it against the Moleton after my Crystal Unicorn had lostto it 5 times. Ironically, it seems as the decrease in the number of Ultra Rare opponents in the tournaments has correlated with an increase in the number of losses I have in the tournament.

Made it! Although I did have to use 4 gems to speed another attempt against River Runner, since it's past my bedtime.
Thank goodness I beat him. 16 losses so not a terrible tournament. River Runner not a favorite of mine, I think he's a little on the ugly side, so he can keep spark shark company in storage for awhile.
Good luck to all trying to get through in these final hours and congrats to all that have already made it. Now the storybook to concentrate on.

I didn't spend any gems speeding this one and clearly won't finish. Had a rough enough time with Sobek, Emerald dragon, and Plutopus. But it's hippogryph that just won't go down so I've been stuck there all day. Even so I'd still have Jade Kirrin next. I didn't get dusk bunny either (got stuck 2nd to last round). I'm on a lousy streak, I guess.

Oh well... there's so many animals I'm more interested in obtaining. Getting more choosy as they've started piling up in my storage. I only have 6 more habitats until I reach my limit.

Not sure im going to make it. Two rounds left. Did well at the beginning but I've been stuck repeatedly in the last few rounds. Very frustrating as this has happened in the last few flash tournaments for me. It appears that my cactus kitsune may need to be retired for a while. She's been a great fighter but not as of late. I also am not speeding as I spent the majority of my gems on the swan storybook. I leave it up to fate, I guess.

Yes hippogryph and jade Kirin for me as well. Just couldn't beat those two. I am also getting limited on space - I have about 12 expansions left but I'm all full now and not enough ruins to expand yet. Since I've been stockpiling bombs, I haven't been able to expand.
