With the runes on sale, 100 runes plus coins and ampeater for 14.99

But I already have some runes, worried about the upper limit.
use to be 76 - What is it now?

The limit depends on where you are in the expansion process and is equivalent to the number of Runes you need to expand to the next plot but no one has a limit more than 80. You can exceed that limit when you win Runes or buy them but you will not be able to get any more from mining until the number of Runes falls below your maximum.
