It's very possible that the developers have made changes to certain elements. If you use a recommended attack (below) and get a different result than 'STRONG' or 'CRITICAL' hits, please post with many thanks in advance.

Again in round 25 I found that my epic Treent can sometimes really struggle on several rounds, despite getting strong attacks. Round 25 is the latest example: 4 attempts and not a single critical hit! Very underwhelming. I let my trusty top warrior, the Gold Lion, step in and whadoyaknow: it instantly scored a critical (and fatal) hit on the very first strike!
It looks like I'll ammend my fighter selector for dark-electric too and shall switch it to the Gold Lion.

And, the same has happened before: As round 17 saw three epic Treent losses against the Nightmare, it was time for a "Plan B": my epic Blizard. It had absolutely no trouble in winning the round.
Against the Nightmare it scored a critical on the 3rd hit (the first two, water and earth respectively were both strong).
I tried it again in round 19 and that round was also won with a strong hit using water, followed by a critical using earth.
I think from now on for dark-fire I'll stick with the Blizard and shall change my fighter selector sheet accordingly.

Note: The choice for the Lullabison in round 12 was to test if Music was strong against Music. I got three neutral hits when attacking with the Music element, so it's not strong to it....
So, now that we know that no element is strong to it, I called in my stellar performer, the epic Gold Lion. That Apex predator had absolutely no issues in making minced meat of the Melodeer: I directly got two criticals (one with electric, the other with fire). Sometimes I wonder if I shouldn't simply select the Gold Lion for ALL rounds.
Round #14 also saw an experimental opponent to test its strengths against Cosmic. I chose Shamrock as an element. It's neutral against Cosmic, but the second hit I got was critical so I passed the round anyway.

Final update:
Alright! Several hours ago I won the Patriotter and at that time in the nest and the breeding den were two firefoxes. When the first one cleared the nest, the other one was moved to it. I again chose dark-fire for breeding (hoping to get a Nightmare) and got a 14 hour timer, which is not a bad fail, as it's the Hot Dog, that I didn't have already! I decided to speed the Firefox that had just been moved to the nest and put the Patriotter in it. Possibly I'll speed the last 6 hours of the hatching time too, so I can directly do another dark-fire breeding once the Hot Dog's breeding is done.
At this moment I have accumulated 77,285 food for the Patriotter, and I've just planted Nexus Nuts on all farms, so tomorrow I'll wake up to another 4,800 food added to that. I did just put my level 9 Gold Lion in the evolution flower, but after it clears the Patriotter should be really soon at epic level. If indeed the evolution time is 4 hours, I expect to have it in epic form somewhere early on Sunday.

hi Ogreve ... I experienced the same... do you by any chance remember which element of the gold lion you used to beat Pluma... Fire or electric ?

Thank you Buttercup.... Unfortunately Magmacore has eluded me so far and not for lack of trying... I've been playing FFS since day 1... but I'll just try with another super rare that has earth in it ;-)

They just changed it !
Now it is 6 days, well not 6 full days, but better than 5 days !

I was feeling angry : it is already hard to make it in 6 days (with hatching, you need to finish in 5 days)
So 5 days is completly impossible !
