There is no maximum. Players have had over 1 million plates per counter.

It doesn't matter how many tables you have. It matters how fast you feed customers and get them out the door so a new customer can take their place. If you have one of the efficient table set ups and your device is left ON, you can serve 1 customer per second (i.e. one customer will walk in the door every second and be fed successfully).
With 70 tables it sounds like you don't have an efficient setup so your rate of serving will be worse and it will take you a lot longer to sell all your food.
I think the maximum number of seats you really need is about 29. So having 70 seats is really unnecessary. Check out this thread:
