The mighty Craguar didn't stand much of a chance against the Treent... \O/

This morning I only had 3 rounds left to go. They were taken care off in a very straightforward way. On the first day the Treent was perhaps a bit off to a slow start, but it made well up for that in its role as a "gem ****er". Today it took care of 2 of the last three rounds with two immediate wins!

Well then, this tournament was won with DAYS to spare and without having used a single gem.
In total there were 17 losses vs. 30 wins. In previous tournaments there have been moments where I would have had around 17 losses on specific rounds alone. Also, in previous tournaments I've always used some gems (typically for a single "ultimate attack"). No need for this now and nothing was sped up either. I love these long 30-round tournaments. It's the 12-round short tournaments that are more troublesome. I hope these will also be easier on me from now on.

So.... it either looks like I had a whole LOT of luck, or if my strategy and opponent selection are simply paying off handsomely....

Common sense and statistics would suggest the latter of the two to be the more likely one.

The only change I made to my "opponents sheet" was due to the way round #24 went: instead of using the Treent against dark-nature (Twilight Troll!) I decided to let the Gold Lion have a shot at it. I'm glad I did! The Treent only scored 6 strong hits (and hence lost two rounds) but the Gold Lion instantly scored two critical hits!
I have added the updated screen shot and the spread sheet to this post.
And to confirm that the choice was not a bad one: in round 27 another dark-nature opponent was up against me. I again chose the Gold Lion and it directly completely wiped out the level 17 Owl Bear with a single critical hit!

For those who find it of interest: over the past two weeks I've been constantly cracking away at raising a fighter squad up to epic level. I used the advice from the "Making sense of the battleground" thread, used Zenobia's last opponents list, then set up a spreadsheet and worked out what my "A team" of super rares should be (as I don't have any ultras, everything has to be done with super rares). In the attached screen shot you can see the line-up. There are 5 core fighters (Treent, Gold Lion, Blizard, Ancient Sloth and the Thorilla, all at epic level) and 2 occasional fighters, being the Vinotaur (15) and the Pluma (14). The Pluma is still being raised now.
I'm really curious to see how the team will perform during this tournament! :P
By accident I picked the Blizard (instead of the Gold Lion) for the first round; no trouble in getting a critical hit though.
