Diamond loss

Not sure if this is posted anywhere but this AM I logged on and noticed that 5 diamonds had disappeared overnight. Since I have only been playing a couple of weeks this is a pretty significant loss. My question is if this is a normal occurance or a freak? And is there any way to recover them?
