Does the food spoil and if so, how long does it take?

Yes it does and double the time it took to cook. If a recipe cooks for an hour then you have to collect it within an hour after it is done otherwise it will spoil. There are few rare instances where shorter recipes, even an hour long one, I went back a little late and it hadn't spoiled yet, but it's rare. You're better off trying to collect right when you know they're due to be done.
