Regarding Feral Magic, in "Sneaking Suspicions", they discovered Feral Magic during the tests. So there's the hint that Feral Magic comes from "Test Soil Samples" and "Test Boar Tusks". But the drops are not guaranteed so you may need to go through the test a few times!

Fight Dire Boars x5 (skip 25 gems)
Collect Soil Samples from Glimmerbulb Crops x20 (Test these for Feral Magic) (Skip 30 gems)

Step 4: Scientific Progress Goes 'Poof'?
Test Soil Samples at the Greenhouse 0/5 (test) skip 25 gems
Test Boar Tusks at the Greenhouse 0/5 (test) skip 25 gems

Test Soil Sample (1hr)
5 Soil Samples
5 Water
5 Glimmerdust


Step 3 has you collect 20 soil samples. However, step 4 has you do 5 test soil sample tests and each test uses 5 soil samples. So be aware and collect 25.

I'm just happy I checked out my gemming neighbours kingdoms before I finished the goal so I avoided a nasty surprise... Consistency clearly is not TLs strong point....

Argh! Collected from library for second time, game reconnected with dialogue after that talking about soil samples etc so collected glimmer bulbs then checked goals and it was back to me having one collection from the library guess I'll them over night now, glad it's not a timed goal
