Difference between Android and IOS players

I've heard lots of people complaining that the Android version doesn't have features the IOS users do. I'm playing on an Android device and when I went to visit people on high levels I used to just assume that the little buildings they had would be unlocked for me later but I'm on level 38 now and so far nothing.
I can't find out exactly what the differences are but I would love to know what I'm missing out on
