I've had success with plain fire and I think fire/rock but it might have just been luck and those are my high level ones

I used the following winning combinations:

Level 60
Aquatter (water/nature)
Used L10 Iciclaw with Earth

Level 63
Turtisle (water/nature)
Used L10 Solar Simian with Fire (after failing with the Iciclaw with Earth; so I also needed some luck)

I just beat the crystal unicorn using rainguin level 9. I used all different animals and finally it worked. Good luck

I smashed it at first attempt with pyropony lvl10. One hit and he was done. Kinda disappointing...
