I know to evolve the Crystal unicorn is 16 hours, but can't remember the habitat built time, think it was around 10 to 15 hours but could be less time than that. Even the emerald dragon evolve time is 16 hours!

You have plenty of time after nesting the egg. The double-dweller Gem Grove takes 12 hours to build. I assume you're not building the Big Gem Grove for 6.1 million coins. LOL. NO idea how long THAT extravagant chunk of ice would take.
Both Crystal Unicorn and Emerald Dragon take 45 hours to breed and 45 to hatch. But evolution times are based on rarity, and ultra-rares evolve in 16 hours.

I'm on L16 today and I tried (I think) yesterday and the day before yesterday with lower levels and I didn't get one on the first try (and not the one after that or after that... ). Maybe I also should have tried at a lower level?

I put Aquatter and Armordillo for breeding when I was lvl 14 (almost 15). Now I'm lvl 20 and still getting nothing but annoying commons. I'm selling them right off the nest coz there's no room for extra habitats. Expansion prices are very high (I'm at 100,000 per square) + clearing the debris.
