My rabbit costs more than other players?!

I want to get a rabbit, but I'm holding out until the birthday goals are over in case we need to buy one for that. Last time the goals required you buy a pony, and it didn't count if you already had one.

*choke* I have like 4 gems. O_O I buy paint or a nail every time I rack up 8, I had no idea there were gem requirements of that magnitude in any of these games! Link please? Was it just a side goal, like a bonus/optional thing, or did it actually impede people from getting other stuff down the line if they didn't get it? Jeez, TL, you just can't help one-upping yourself, can you? :-/
