I wasn't sure where to start with my question, it seems that my kingdom has fallen under attack of the dire boars. Yesterday while playing, I had to battle the boar five times within a two minute period (I was clearing my mushroom patch and after each plant was harvested, a boar would come along)... Is that how it's supposed to be?

Once you get to the part where you place the swamp the boars will mostly disappear. This has caused many people problems, so don't rush to get rid of them by getting that far too quickly
If you have a boar spawn but need to do other things in the kingdom you can just leave the boar but note that no other boar or beasts will spawn while one is still in the kingdom.
