When I leave my phone plugged in overnight it only charges to 97%. Why?

Sounds like your battery may need replacing or recalibrating, if possible.

By the way, you really should never leave your phone to charge overnight. That's way too long to charge it. Leaving batteries (laptops, phones, etc) plugged in like that "burms" them and reduces your battery life. You should charge it to 100% and then remove it once it gets there.

It's a nice idea in theory, but I'm not waking up at night to unplug it. If I happen to remember it when I get up to pee I'll do it.

I'm wearing purple. As a kid, I made sure I wore green on St. Patrick's day since if you didn't everyone pinched you. But as an adult, no one in the workplace dares to pinch others who are not wearing green.
