Can't see anything in the woods either. I just can't find it.

Nope. Def a critter somewhere. Think I'm going to have to start putting stuff in storage to find it. No idea where to start!
Try force closing (exit, double tap home button, press and hold icon at the bottom on the screen, press the minus icon, press the home button) and then restarting the game. If the monster was out of bounds this will cause it to disappear. If not you can move things without needing to put them in storage to find it. Usually the area of influence helps to spot it if it's hiding.
