Level 289: 20 meters in 55 moves (5JC.) Wow, it's very strange...these split-up boards. Didn't understand how they worked until I played. I'm still a little fuzzy, even though I passed on my first try, lol. It's pretty fun--just takes getting some used to. These boards are different in that it doesn't scroll until you clear the entire section--even the bottom row. (Usually digging levels scroll when just 1 row's on screen.)

Something weird happened, though. Not sure if it's a glitch or what. After I used a blaster + bomb in the 2nd area, it scrolled down to the 3rd area. But it looked like this 1st photo:

An entire column was missing, and never did fill in. I was able to pass with it like that, though (made another blaster + bomb at the bottom to clear everything.) Hmmm, wonder why the jewels wouldn't fill-in?

Level 290: Dig 22 meters in 3:15 (5JC.) This is really hard! The fact that it won't scroll until the entire area's cleared makes super dirt even tougher than before. Usually if you have a stubborn piece, you can get it to fall by digging under, then worry about it later. But you don't have that luxury here. I never made it out of the first area/region during my first attempt...one block of super dirt kept it from scrolling. Did slightly better my 2nd round (got into 2nd area, but still pretty pathetic.) Hopefully more "practice" will help me progress. Not sure I like the timed version of this (but not a "timed" fan, anyway.) 20 seconds added to the clock since last month, but I'm gonna need a lot more help than that, lol! Help!

Took lots of tries, but I finally passed 290. Good old blaster + bomb combos did the trick, plus a diamond that activated a horizontal blaster at the perfect time. It's important to have the right specials/combos when you need them bcuz you cannot progress until every block of dirt/super dirt is cleared. It feels strange, since we're used to the screen scrolling when it gets to just one row. But not with these levels--even at the goal line. The time is really tight on this, too. If you're like me, though, you'll get better at it with practice & eventually get a luckier board (that has the special jewels you need.)

Level 291: 16 fire in 65 moves (5JC.) They added 5 moves since the orig. post. It's pretty challenging--haven't gotten very close to passing yet. There are plenty of moves to get the lock and chain (L&C) open. But the flames at the bottom are very difficult to reach. A little more practice & some luck, though, and I can beat this level. In the meantime, I'm enjoying this..a great game at my own pace!

Passed 291 w/diamond + blaster & blaster + bomb combos, as well as some perfect matches near the flames at the bottom. This level took a little luck...not bad though, for a fire level, lol! Naw, I don't mind fire when it's a moves level. Mostly "moves" on this island--love it!

Level 292: Dig 14 meters in 90 moves (5JC.) Passed this one on my first attempt. Used lots of horizontal blasters (as Aileeni mentioned,) as well as several blaster + bomb combos. Fun level!

Level 293: Dig 22 meters in 75 moves (5JC.) This level's fun bcuz you can make lots of special jewels. Diamonds are awesome for the snakes, and blasters/blaster + bomb combos for the dirt. Still getting tripped-up too long on some areas waiting to clear 1 or 2 blocks of dirt (gotta get thru faster!) I've made it to the 3rd region most rounds, just not enough moves to finish.

    Changes~ 292: +15 moves; 293: +10 moves

Finally got a round on 293 where it all came together. Didn't use as many combos as on other rounds, mostly blasters instead (horiz. blasters for snakes, plus a diamond or 2.) At the end, I had one snake left, but I "reached the goal" regardless. I guess ****ing snakes doesn't matter if there's no dirt underneath them(?)

These 3-region digging layouts are fun, with a few differences. For ex., it doesn't help to make "extra" special jewels. Normally on digging levels I make all the blasters, bombs, & diamonds I can. But on this type, if I'm nearly through an area, I only make what I think I need (esp. on moves levels.) No use using a move to make a diamond, cuz when the screen scrolls down--it's gone! The jewels don't seem to move from section to section...

Level 294: 16 fire in 1:15 (5JC.) Darn, the fun's over. Up to now, this island's been pretty awesome...with moves levels and a pretty fun timed digging level. But this timed fire level is fast & difficult. The flames at the bottom are super hard-to-reach. I'm not quite sure how to get them out. This is gonna take some time to get used to the board and hopefully they'll add more time to the level (they added 20 seconds since original post.) I'll also hope for perfect fire-extinguishing matches at the bottom and a good ol' blaster + bomb combo low on one side to blow out the whole mess!

294: The crates near the bottom on the left & right make it even harder to reach the flames. I haven't had time to break them in any of my attempts so far, and it's the only way to get direct access to the bottom row fire. But there's no time; I spend the whole time fighting the "active" fire, breaking the other crates, & creating special jewels (hoping I can combine them in a good spot.) For anyone who's passed this--did you break those crates on left/right? Or did you blast them from above? (Or just get lucky with diamond + blaster, etc.?)

Btw: speaking of diamond + blaster combos, does anyone know what determines the type of blasters created? When you swap a diamond with a blaster, it changes every jewel of the blaster's color into a blaster. Usually most of the created blasters are either row or column blasters, with a couple of the opposite type thrown in. What determines getting mostly horizontal row blasters, for example? If you swap a diamond with a row blaster, do you get mostly row (horiz.) blasters? Or is it the way you swap--like if you swipe horizontally, do you get a majority of row blasters? I was trying to figure it out last time I combo'd, but my theory at the time didn't make sense. Anyone know for sure, or is it just random?

OK, well as soon as I posted the above, I played another 294 round. Wouldn't you know, I passed with a diamond + blaster! (Whoo-hoo!) The blaster was blue, & I had lots of blue jewels on the board. So it wiped out every flame. I swapped a column (vertical) blaster with the diamond, and most of the created blasters were vertical/column jewels. But I'm pretty sure I swiped vertically, as well. So I didn't get an answer to my question (above.) Oh well, I'm sure I'll have more opportunities, or hopefully someone will post the answer here.

Now I'm off to The Phoenix Prison. Hope it's more fun than its name sounds, lol!

Use diamonds to get rid of snakes. and DO NOT MAKE DIAMOND+BLASTER COMBO!!!!
