Why can't I clear the last piece of foliage on an island?

I cleared off my main island months ago and noticed that I wasn't given the option to clear the very last piece. I did everything I could think of, but just never could clear this last piece. I thought it was an anomoly and moved on. Now I've gotten to the last piece of foliage on a second island and again the game doesn't give me theoption of clearing one last piece. What gives????? The islands are kind of ugly with these 1 uncleared pieces. Do I have to do something special to clear these last pieces? Any tips you can give would be appreciated. :-)

Thanks for the feedback. For corner and ledge areas it's totally not a simple fix like you suggest. For some of the seemingly random areas, we actually reserve those spots in case we want to add new on-board things (like the Dawn Tree) in future updates. Basically, if we let people expand everywhere, if we ever wanted to add a new thing to everyone's boards, we couldn't, because players would have built on those spots. That's only a few small spots though, 5 or 6 I think.
