I am wondering the same thing especially for the 21x21 expansion available at level 50 as I'm currently on level 47.

21x21 costs 600,000 coins or 40 gems. My guess is that 22x22 will cost 700K if it follows the pattern, but I'm a long way off level 70 to find out.

The 22x22 did cost 700,000 plus a neighbor requirement, think it was 60 neighbors
