Best way to spend gems?

I have got about 30 gems free, I would like to spend them, but what is the best way to spend it other than using it to speed up time?

I don't know, but spend them as soon as possible, because you'll accidentally spend them on useless things like "speed up" of "refill energy".

This game has the worst gemtraps ever. Before you know it you click on a yellow arrow or behind it and accidentally click something twice and lose a gem (or more.) And there is no getting them back.
I lost one on a 1 minute "speed up" later I got 5 from a goal, and bought the pig with it, before I would lose all of them.

I lost 20 gems and in the end i decided to just use all of it.

This prevent me from buying gem too... Trapped all my gems...
