Cappuccino is the best gift through level 15-20 for people who play with strategy. For casual players, it's likely good through 30 or so. Anyone taking food at level 40 or beyond isn't just casual, they are likely role players (yes, that includes 5 year olds).
Beyond those levels, food gift is nearly completely useless. When you have a few million plates of 40 different food, 200 more plates means nothing.
However, at level 10 when you can barely keep food on the table, and enough gold to cook, cappuccino gives you a few plates and decent amount of gold.
