I noticed just now that your image has the snowy christmas version background instead of the grass. Could that be part of it? That it's fixed in the holiday version but not in the current plain ol' Farm Story?

Maybe that's your problem. You should get an Android device.

We only have one version available to us so you don't have to guess which versions will do what.

I know. I used to have my farm on my android phone. actually, I like it better now that it's on the iPad because that way I don't play constantly.
