The Olympics (both summer and winter)

    What are your favorite events?

And as a follow up, why do the United States ALWAYS dominate the olympics as a whole?

I like cycling and swimming, mainly because they're the two Olympic sports that I do properly.

The US has a lot more people than many Olympic Countries, which is I think why they "dominate".

I'm a casual fan of both (gymnastics and swimming events are always fun to watch), but I like the Winter Games more. Luge, Skeleton, Freestyle Aerials... it's all fun to watch. Don't watch often, but I'll switch the games on at home if I remember.

The US does pretty well since they have a large population and pretty darned good resources and facilities. Though we hardly dominate; we got the most medals in 2010, but third in Golds. Props to the host country for bringing their A-game in 2010.

Well since I started this thread I guess I should answer. My favorite events are the 100m dash in summer and short track in winter.

And since I made the claim, here are some numbers for you guys:

Since 1896, the U.S. have 2549 medals in both summer and winter olympics (1016, 824, 709).

    Russia is 2nd with 1204 medals (473, 376, 355)

Norway has the most winter medals with 303 (U.S. has 253)

Superior training facilities and a large population are a big factor, but I think the overall medal table speaks volumes about the cultural diversity of America, which is something I'm pretty proud to be a part of.

And I agree with Rachael, London 2012, can't wait. What will Phelps and Bolt do this time??

Just read a tweet that most most of the Olympic torch carriers will be corporate sponsors. Ouch.
