"Less" is an uncountable noun, "fewer" is a countable one, used for discrete units like gems and coins. I have "less stress" not "fewer stress". "Money" is an overall uncountable noun as it refers to coins/gems in their aggregate. So I have "less money" (not fewer money) and that translates to "fewer dollars/coins/gems". Something costs "fewer coins " or "fewer gems" not "less gems."
