U-pirate ship wall is 15 gems why and how are they different from the ones that cost 1,000 coins. Is U for unlocked?

Yes; U- is a prefix for "unlocked". Usually, it's applied to goal prize items that have been re-released, for gems, for players who were not around at the time of the original goal to purchase. There is no functional difference between a U-item and the original.

If you have the option of purchasing both, then naturally it's your choice to purchase which version you prefer
