You spawn them from cows to defeat them to get ship maps. When you have fifty ship maps you can use them in the floating pirate ship to make a First Matey.

Craft him in the floating pirate ship. You will need to defeat 50 first matey’s.

Find the first matey spawn by tapping cows.

It is only day three so there is a lot more time. My Troll Camp has been pretty generous. Hopefully you can collect from it three times a day. You only need about 1.5 drops per day from the troll camp to finish. I'm finding the Fresh Water and wooden swords to be harder to come by.

Abysmal drop rate on fresh water. 27 ponds, one fresh water!

Pirate lass seems to be spawning frequently, but wooden swords and fresh water are hard to come by. I'm only getting 1 fresh water for every 12 or 13 ponds. That is only about 8% drop rate. Pretty bad even for S8.

Could you be mistaking the troll pit with the troll camp? Troll camp is a 3x3 building that has a 6 hour timer:
