I have the same question: After we do the expansion, it exposes the Old King's Castle, which has a 60 min timer. We collect from the Old King's Castle, and we again "search for more clues". The game took me back to the Old King's Castle when I tried to "search for more clues" using the button in the Goalbook, but the clue item also looks like the same thing we got from Cottages.
Do we just keep going to the castle every hour for clues?

Can we do the expansion before we find the clue from the cottages?

Double check the music, that you don't have a hidden monster somewhere. It's happened to me on occasion...

I tried my minks too but nothing, so waiting for them again. Actually, I think I'll wait until tomorrow though as this must be a glitch.

Yep, music is on and there were no beasts in play.

You will need 13 travelers brews. Each brew needs 65 fire flowers from aspen trees. Fortunately, almost every hit to an Aspen tree makes one fire flower. So you will need (13*65)divided by 6 fire flowers per Aspen tree = 141 Aspen trees.

I am very excited about getting the origin story of the ruler! It’s been so fun to read the dialogue. I hope the Council comes through with an answer!
