Stove Appliance limits

What?s the limit to the amount of stoves I can have? I?m on level 83 and I?ve been stuck with only 17 appliances at least 10 levels back. I do see the Design Tab telling me to unlock appliance for 49 gems, so will that be the only way going forward for me to get an appliance?

Each player gets 18 free appliance slots, after that you have to spend 49 gems each time you want to add an additional slot to your board.
