There are 3 options for obtaining faerie chests: buying one for 40 gems, earning the milestones with them, or completing the three daily goals (see your book in the top left corner for the goals).

Daily Goals:
1 - tend 10 animals
2 - defeat 4 monsters
3 - chop some rocks (I think 4, but forget now.)

Wow, it?s taken me HOURS to figure out what the heck I?m doing for this event. Without the help from you lovely forum members, I?d still be scratching my head. Somehow, I got three chests right away, with no idea how I got them. Now I know I must have accidentally met the daily goals.

😂I feel the saaaaaaaaame! I got to my game late last night and sat there trying to figure out what exactly I was supposed to be doing. I ended up with three chests and no idea how I came by them. I'm now going through forum posts seeking clarity. 😂 Thank God for this forum I tell you.

I'm also kind of waiting on doing this challenge until I see some more about the prizes. I always appreciate trade ticket droppers but I have a few already and really, really hate chopping trees.
I'm especially curious about the faerie atrium crafts.

Sawmill drops are ridiculous. I have collected 3 times from both sawmills and nada! At this point I have more of ivy than Thomas.

Well, I've decided to go for it. I think it will be more fun to me to do it than to sit it out. Also, I have a feeling the paparazzo gnome might be the "real" prize. Or not, who knows with S8? Lol
