Now that we no longer have any Gold Producing Dragons to collect, I would advise that you invest your gold (assuming that you have a collection of GPDs) to upgrade your island to have the full suite of 4 nests and 2 Evolution Temples. Having them along with your existing Breeding Den will greatly help you get through all the events generally without having to spend gold. I complement this "arsenal" with occasionally activating my Breeding Roost as it greatly helps with the breeding tasks associated with simultaneous events, goals, and tasks! For example, I never have to spend any gold these days for World Events (i.e. getting to 3,200 points) and easily get to the 10th milestone of Leaderboard events by just playing "normally" (i.e. no boosting).
