    It's a certain type/class of dragon that can only be won or purchased (except for the Valiant Dragon- he's a breedable Champion/Diamond hybrid). They are sometimes tournament bosses or the grand prize dragon in the Leaderboard or Tales. The dragons in tournaments that are next to impossible to beat, like Glasswing and Battlesteed? Those are Champion types.

    The dragon for sale at the top of the Market right now, Spirit Warrior, is a Champion type. The symbol for the Champion color/type is a little leather helmet:
