Is it smarter to expand with gems or coins?

Hey there! I finally have enough gems to expand to 13x16, but I'm not sure if I should spend them or wait until I have enough coins for the expansion.

I could always use gems on decorations, or even the surprise boxes (never bought one before).

What do y'all seasoned players think? Is it smarter to expand with gems or coins, and which do you normally use?

    Thanks everyone

It's just better to expand early on with coins, in my opinion. The gems can be used for cute walls, flooring and decor. Since its much easier to make the little coins needed and easier to earn it back again. But for my last four to six expansions to be full size, I used gems. I was impatient, wanted to decorate, needed the space and coins were slow to accumulate.

I decided to save my gems for decorating, and I've done coins for expansions. With that said, I've been level 99 for a while and I'm still not fully expanded (although I almost have enough for my last expansion). I could have been fully expanded sooner, but I've spent coins on tables, racks, decor, items for my avatar, etc. It's probably just a personal decision and how long you're willing to wait to be fully expanded.

I just couldn't bring myself to spend a huge pile of gems on something I could earn with coins and a little patience. I expanded fully with coins.

The final few expansions took me months each to save up for, particularly the final one, but I didn't mind, it was like making my own goal.

Think that 80 gems, if you bought them, would be worth about $20 with just a few left over. That's fairly expensive for one game expansion, IMO.

But really, it depends on how fast you want your expansions, and if you can spend a lot of money on gems, or if you use gems to buy d?cor or avatar items instead.

Some people never expand past a certain size, since they want a smaller, easier to decorate with a single theme shop. I actually wish I had a smaller shop as well as my fully expanded one, as those people have an excellent point. For instance, it is going to be very difficult to fit the new Lab into my fully expanded shop, but with a smaller shop I might have been able to just go full nerd/business for a while as a theme.

I'm guilty of expanding with gems on my last expansion I seem to never reach 1 million coins very annoying so so spent 80gems on one... I don't feel bad if I think of the accidental boxes and slots bought uuuggggggg just thinking about that makes me angry lol

I have done both, mostly because I was impatient and didn't want to wait to build up the coins I needed to expand. I think it's up to you. But, if you have limited money to spend on gem, I would say use coins to expand and use the gems you have to decorate.

I would save your gems for decorations or other items. As you get access to higher levels you will see more and more items that you'll want, that cost gems. Right now in the early levels when everything is locked you probably won't see much worth spending the gems on.

It's also not hard to hit the coin amounts needed for those earlier expansions. Just a bit of patience and creativity to maximise cash flow in your little store. Sacrifice aesthetics in those early levels to improve your store layout. Never throw away clothes. Aim to order short hour catalogs to collect those level up bonuses and avoid ending up with a half a million coins locked up in one rack with 100000 items that won't sell through in a fiscal quarter! Don't let orders expire. Tip like mad and regularly collect tips.

Just make sure you don't hit any of those gem traps!

I always used gems for more clothing slots and the resulting coins for expansions ... But I don't have a wonderfully decorated shop either, not that creative as most. '
