Never ever use gems to finish recipes. Customers leaving mad is no big deal. Oh and don't start building random appliances. Oven and mixer are really all you need at first, start collecting mortar/bricks from friends for the bread oven and screws/red potions as well. Those goals will come up as you move up in levels. If you begin by mastering recipes in time/output order you'll have plenty of food in no time.

Most important read the forum especially the neighbor etiquette thread. Good luck.

For fast leveling, make easy bake ovens and crank out brownies till level 25, then you can use Jasmine Tea.

Don't block your door to slow down sales. Doing that could cause a 'quick sale' meaning that when you reopen, all of your food will sell instantly.

You only need one chair per table (unless you want it to look a certain way). Also, the 'bots' need to be able to get to the chair to sit down. Good luck & have fun!

Browse threads in your free time, pages and pages back, and click on any title that looks like it could be anything you might ever want or need to know. That's where I picked up a lot of random stuff. Also, experimentation/trial and error in the game itself, just always think twice before any big decisions!

Off the top of my head...

First and foremost, be very VERY careful with your gems. Don't use them to speed anything up, it's a complete waste. Save them for decor you really want, and be EXTRA careful you don't fall into any gem traps! Buttons that spend gems are placed very close to almost all of the other buttons, and there won't be a popup or anything to confirm any gem spending if you accidentally hit one, they'll just automatically be spent.
(The after-reset popups are especially tricky - the button is just all-of-a-sudden there, and you're hitting it before you even see it. Midnight Pacific time is reset, so when you first start your game after that time, just sit and wait a bit after entering your store before hitting anything. Be sure to hit the 'X' in the corner rather than 'OK' on the ones with that option.)

Don't decorate much at all... AT ALL... not this soon... you'll run yourself broke before you realize what you've done, you'll most likely regret it, and the goals will have you doing plenty of that anyway. When goals pop up asking you to buy this or that wallpaper and flooring, buy whichever one you like, just always go back to the goal after buying one piece and make sure it's counting before buying however many it wants.

Acquiring nbrs: Check out the Add Me section of the forum to find nbrs with a similar play-style to yours. Browse in-game for people who post on their wall that they're looking for nbrs. Whatever you do, please don't just go around pasting your ID to every wall you open without checking first to make sure they don't have a post up saying that they're not adding!

There's tons more, just start browsing around the forum!
