Avatar/closet... what's the point??

Just wondering... what's the point of the avatar and buying things in the closet for it? When I first got goals for it, and realized what it was, I thought "oh, the avatar must be the person IN the shop, running the cash register. But then I realized that's not the case, my "salespeople" rotate and keep changing just like customers.

So what's the point? Why should we spend money/gems on something that NOBODY can ever see? That "person" and the outfits we buy them don't ever appear in the shop or anything, so why bother? What possible reason is there to bother?
Why isn't that "person" the one running the store? That would make much more sense spending money & gems on that person. Otherwise, I don't see a point!

Am I missing something?

Your Avatar is seen when someone comes to your store. So it's the first thing that they see. There are a lot of the members who hold fashion contests and even TL has some things to do with your Advatar at times. But it's still your choice you do not have to spend anything on it just through some clothes you have on it and use your jems on decor...

Yeah, Id rather spend coins and gems on clothes for my avatar than on stuff for my store!

Your avatar is practically your spokesperson to your boutique. Kind of like Halle Berry with Covergirl. Same thing with your avatar and your boutique.

It would be great though if our avatar could feature in our stoes. As the salesperson, or even a mannequin would be awesome!

I thought the same thing when I first started playing last year. At first I stuck with the default outfit it gives you. Then when I started earning a lot more money in the shop, I started buying coin clothing and accessories. Then there were goals that required buying things from the closet. I bought very few gems items from the closet. The few I did buy were cheaper ones, 5-15 gems at most. The point of the avatar is just for fun. Stick with the default outfit or buy other stuff. It's up to you.

I didn't bother with my avatar at first either. Now its the first thing I want to do when updates come!

Same with me *laughing at self* I thought the Avatar worked in the store. Oh my gosh put your drink your down now so you don't spew on the keyboard..lol I thought when people posted on my wall "I shopped" they literally bought something and lol I would watch the shoppers thinking why aren't they wearing something they bought before. lol Oh dear me, mind you this was in the first week or 2 of playing.

But I enjoy dressing my Avatar.

Thanks for the info & answers. And yah, it was the goals that made me question it most... I was thinking "why am I required to dress this person nobody will ever see?" lol I honestly never noticed the avatars on the pop-ups when visiting nbrs! lol I just saw they say "welcome... blah blah" so I always closed them instantly, never realizing the avatars were there... and each different! lol Now I see them!
Course I still think they should be IN the store somewhere. Either as a salesperson... or like one said, even a mannequin. Even if we had to buy the mannequin (for coins tho) and place our own avatar in the store. I'd be more inclined to dress them more. For now, I would rather concentrate on spending in my store and for the current goals. But oh well, at least I understand a little better now. Thanks again! :-)
