I’ve noticed decreased drops as well. I will only craft the black queen if i end up with enough by end of event, otherwise i may get a second white queen piece for the drops (same as the black queen) so I’m just weighing my odds. How is everyone getting so far along when we are stuck waiting to collect from sparkling mines? I did miss a partial day of play, but I don't feel like I will ever get the 3 Painting Pawns crafted so I can move to the next step.

You can buy a value pack... I am crafting my first pawn... So it will take a while.

I've had more time to stay in my game, plus I'm using multiple timers for fountain and mines. Also I've made some strategic gem speed ups IMO. For example to get to where I can use a bucket of paint to craft a pawn overnight. Mostly though it's me setting timers and able to play a lot.

Basically I am just trying to remember to check in every hour.
Same here… I mean I think I’ll finish in time but it’s not a sure thing and I refuse to wake up in the middle of the night for anything game related. I also don’t set timers except for watering trees every 5 minutes but luckily I’m done with trees for this event.
No Gems For Runes!
For me, if I want to join this type of event, I know that I have to buy an extra dropper (ex. fountain at this time). It will help you reach the next step faster and have enough time to deal with other bottlenecks. But this extra-dropping item is more expensive than a few years before.
Value pack isn't necessary in this event if you have a lot of stock energy. (unless you want 10-mins unlimited energy and 10 expansion permits in cheap price compared to other methods)
The rest is an ability to log in every 1-2 hours.
So, if the reward items weren't attractive to me enough, I usually skipped them. (But the S8 team lately did artwork too well, so hard to skip)
With so many roadblocks along the way, I wonder if this event is doable at all.

I plan to place the upcoming black queen next to the Red King (once I have enough queen's coins).
I took the opportunity of this chess board and reorganize my entire island of Audra. It looks a bit cleaner now

But where you will place the Red Queen? Her design is so lively and can be independent in my opinion.
I can see that the chessboard becomes the major piece of your Audra island. Your screenshot can inspire me in many ways.
My Audra island is still a messy sandbox for farming items.But I will gradually plan what theme I will do after unlocking lands.
