2 male lions do not breed to make a lion cub!

Just thought I'd mention it in case no one noticed but two male lions do not breed to make a baby. The same is with Caribou and other animals in the game. A female lion does not have a mane. A female caribou does not have antlers.

Actually, female caribou do tend to have antlers. Female African elephants have tusks.

However, yes, teamlava has failed to depict the sexual dimorphism of many of its creatures.

My personal favorite is that both kangaroos have a pouch.

It would be a pretty huge change and would also require doubling the amount of art for the animals, possibly affecting loading time. I personally would rather they spend time and bandwidth on other things like adding new content and porting the game to Android ;)
