Question about game options?

My 8 year old son and I both play Dragon Story. We each have the app installed on our phones. However, when he opens the game on his phone, he has a little icon to the left side of the screen which allows him to watch advertisements, to earn free gold. I do not have this option when I play on my phone.
Why not??
