Does the land pieces mine close when you expand to the maximum?

I know the mine used to close previously but not sure if that is still the case with the current land maximum. I like to expand until there is one spot left and then stop... in order to keep getting food from mining.

Anyone have a picture of what the maximum expansion looks like?

Don't go any farther than shown if you wish to keep mining for apple bonuses. You'll have to do an extra click after each stick to exit the mine and then come back in.

You'll be able to mine for a max of 999 island pieces before it tops out. You'll still get award island pieces added on top of those if they give them to you in an event. That pic is 11 levels or so ago, on my island, so I've been doing it for a while, and it's still going ok.
