Castle story

On Castle Story, when a specific event finishes, and you don't have all the items, it says you can only get them 'from gems'. I'm not sure what this means other than using gems to buy them. But the items you need are not always in the shop!
Can somebody help please?

Thanks. I just think 480 gems for one tem is a bit excessive, especially as you have to buy the gems with REAL cash before you can buy the item you need. But thanks for clearing that up.
