Does anyone else hoard apples? I now have 1,238,828. My goal was a million but it has become an obsession :D

I have 2.18 millions. Yes, it requires around-the-clock planting of Charm Cherries and Nexus Nuts (in the night). Also, I use apples carefully.

Me... BUT the most I have ever saved up to before I had to use them to get animals was about 430k
Now with the Leaderboards I am down to about 30k

:0 How in the world did you get that many without wasting them for storybooks, Leaderboards, and zodiac animals :0

Like supermaay, l plant cherries most of the day and nexus nuts at night. As Alideh mentions, storybooks typically take 200k, raising a tournament animal from lvl 10 to 15 takes 80k or 110k and leaderboards are however many apples you are prepared to throw in to achieve the prize you're after. You can't have your apples and eat them, to paraphrase an old saying.

If you are persistent about planting you can get through a Storybook without draining your food supply that much. It's the Leaderboards that can really drain your food supply. I'm not real excited about this Gingerbread Leaderboard. My plan all along was to acquire the milestone animals and that would be it for me. Not interested in winning the prize. I'm sure at some point we will get a Leaderboard that I really want to win, and then I will have to decide if I want to part with a large supply of my apples. I have almost 1.2 million by the way.

I completed all of the storybook events so far. For the Leaderboard events, my goal is only to get all milestones and runes (i.e., reaching the 3rd - the 6th place). I won't wast apples to get in the first two places as I don't care about the Ultra Rare animals most of the time (I have so many UR animals in Storage so why bother). With this strategy as well as constant planting, you can save a lot of apples.

I had built up 500,000 apples but depleted them raising up ultra and super rares during the magical leaderboard. Now I'm fluttering between 250,000 and 150, 000 and trying to build back up again while still achieving the storybook goals and leaderboard milestones.

Thanks for the tips, For me it takes about 330k apples to get up there to reach the last milestone or atleast the 2nd last one, so It is pretty cool that you still managed to have all those apples after wasting some for the event. I plant round the clock however the night ones are the ones that I sometimes don't get to plant the almonds due to thinking "I'll be awake for another hour, I'm good" but end up crashing out T_T

I used 440K apples (by raising 4 Schedule E animals from Level 10 to Level 14) in the last 30-minute of the Gingerbread Leaderboard event (plus a 7-gem boost) just to stay in the 5th place (an expensive move to win 10 runes). Now my apples are down from over 2 millions down to 1.65 millions. This is an example of how fast the leaderboard event can **** your food inventory. Is it worth it? I don't know but I just feel the impulse to get more runes for some reason.

By the way, this impulse came from panic to see everyone begin to boost and leave me with nothing after so much effort. Who is the winner of the whole thing? Storm8 for sure.

Same here... My apples went down from about 1.2 million to 780k just to reach the 4th place and win10 runes! At least I raised to epic some of my favourite animals 😊

Good for you. I also raised two Zodiac animals (Virgo, Libra) and two Rainbow animals (Pedal Peacock, Rainbow Raven) to Level 14.

The struggle of hoarding apples and keeping them :/ A tiny part of me really hopes that the next story book isn't one I'm a fan of, so that I can keep hoarding XD and save those for another leaderboards...while the other part of me says "Noo, some snow animals or a nice themed story book would be cool, try to some more animals" ahhh decisions decisions...

Yes. 1,484,000 on account 1, and 1,609,920 on account 2. Would have much more but the Leaderboard events really drain them down.

I do remember reaching 2 million at one point.

LOL, my exact technique. Charm cherries are the way to go for those that want to know and they really sync in when the battles are in play cause it's every hour so you harvest and replant the cherries and go to battle.

Nexus nuts at night is perfect because it gives you the most for that amount of time and more than the 8 hour planting, mystic mangos I think they are.

1 million :0
I saved up 515k and then used basically all of them yesterday to get points for the leaderboards. No regrets, After the leaderboards are done I'm starting again and saving up till the next leaderboards XD I don't think I can save up to 1million unless one of the future Leaderboards gives out prizes I already have as the milestones and then the main prize isn't an animal I like, unless that happens I can't save up past 550k :/

I had over 2 million before the leaderboards started. After the last one I am down to a bit over 400,000. Unfortunately my game has become so graphics heavy that I have to delete and reinstall every time I want to open it and I am unsure how much longer even doing this will allow me to play. I used to plant Charm Cherries during the day but have cut back on hoarding food because of the difficulty of getting into the game. So I am working on reducing my need to hoard food although I wish I didn't need to.

This is the big reason I grin at the leaderboard events, they drain all my food away. Plus, I'm out of animals to feed and evolve I have now come to a point where I am evolving animals I rather keep as level 1 like common animals. I sell them once they are fully evolved and replace with a level 1 and so forth... horrible.

OMG, that's some pretty drastic measures just to get in. Dedication! I'm hitting the same problems and I don't even have that many animals. Lots sitting in storage, even Ultra rares from leaderboard wins. I have all the trophies on show, but only one prize animal hatched. I can play on Android where there is a feature to delete all the game data saved, so I can easily get into DS by just deleting the data instead of doing a reinstall. FSS hasn't quite reached that stage but it does crash randomly. I know on iOS you can't do the pure data delete tho.

To stay on topic, I managed to amass over 1 million food playing this game not so seriously in between DS sessions. Then LB started and I got a lot more serious with this game >_< Drew down my food repository foolishly at the start, now I carefully pick my battles.

I really want to hoard apples but I'm just not good at it yet. I'm still working on getting my animals to higher levels so they can earn more coins. I end up using my food for leveling them up and coins to expand to accomadate more animals. My goal is to be generating enough coins to plant nuts & cherries so I can stock up on food.
Thanks to all your tips, I did manage to save enough to get through the Storybook, so thank you all for your suggestions.

I came looking for something telling me how many apples it's good to have on hand for storybooks, so thank you for that info. However I was all excited this week because I hit 50k apples for the first time ever, then I read this thread and thought... Oh...

I'm not sure how long you have been playing but I assume not that long. Honestly, food and coins will be a problem for about 6 months after you start playing unless you get lucky and breed a CU quickly. Things get easier faster when you do that. When you begin playing it is important to raise animals up to high levels in order to produce more coins. Plus you need to get some animals raised to epic levels to use in tournaments. For about 6 months I was constantly needing coins and food. But after you get more and more animals in your forest and more habitats going things will begin to get easier, especially when you are able to plant the high yield crops.....charm cherries and nexus nuts....exclusively. I've been playing over a year and coins and food are no longer a problem to me. I have more than enough epic level animals to use in tournaments. I never even bother feeding animals any more unless it is required. Just be patient and work at it and eventually you will be able to hoard a lot of food.

Lol. I felt the same way.
I'm relatively new, too, and I have to say these forums have helped so much. Like they said, no need to feed all your animals to Epic. Get them to level 7-ish until you start getting some income. Coins aren't good for much except expansions, so you don't really need many anyway. you get enough to there, then you can focus feed them as you can afford to generate more coins. I now rarely bother feeding anything but Super Rares.
As for tournaments, you actually can get through them with just three animals. There are six regular elements, so just Epic so you have three combos, each with two elements.
FTR, it took me about 160k to finish the last Storybook. I've gotten a little better at hoarding. I just got myself to 200k for the first time and it took me around ten days.

I finally hit my 1 million goal! First time :) I'm going to go as high as possible before the next storybook gobbles a big chunk of it hehe
