Can someone explain the mysteries of battling? When do you use bash and when do you use magic? I have been referring to the battling guide to chose colours. How can a lower level beat a higher level? What do people mean when they use a small b(m) and a capital B(M) when listing their results. Thanks for helping a confused newbie.

Can someone explain the mysteries of battling? When do you use bash and when do you use magic? I have been referring to the battling guide to chose colours. How can a lower level beat a higher level? What do people mean when they use a small b(m) and a capital B(M) when listing their results. Thanks for helping a confused newbie.

The capital letter is the method that takes the most damage and the lower case only do minor damage. For me, most of the time I use bash first but, from what I researched, it doesn't really matter if you use bash or magic first. There's a battle calculator on the Battle Arena Wikia page that will let you know the chance percentage of giving a critical hit to a particular dragon. Most of the time when battling Champions, it comes down to luck when choosing a dragon. I hope this helps.

I admit I have no s****, battle plans or attack directives when it comes to tournaments...I've managed to win most I've followed thru on only lost 2 so far. My advice. ..go with the most unexpected fighter, use what you have then try again, I've been beaten then used the same dragon again and tada...down goes the bully. No difference in approach, same b/m/b or whatever but it worked so I roll with it ☺

This tournament is going very smooth for me. I got RS during the VP sale a couple of weeks ago and have only been able to level him up to 6. He has won 7 of the first 19 rounds for me and only lost once. I'm quite proud of him and can't wait until he is level 15, which will be soon. Other than that I've only lost a total of 4 battles, much better than most of my recent tournament attempts. I hope things start going better for you.

Just wanted to share here: I did an experiment throughout this tournament with another of my 'whacky' theories : I mirrored the opponent and used the same dragon (when ever I had that dragon) regardless of levels. Can't explain why or how but the results were beyond my wildest expectations. Some examples are:
My lvl 7 dueler won against lvl 19 dueler.
My lvl 10 RS won against lvl 20 RS.
My lvl 7 Kunfu won against lvl 18 kungfu.
Lvl 10 Watermelon won against lvl 19 Watermelon .
Lvl 7 prime arcane won against lvl 20.

I am not bothering to write about the lower level opponents. This theory has worked 100% of times in this tournament.

May be something to keep in mind when stuck with an opponents??

Do you have Beast, Apprentice, Dark Phoenix or any high level purple/blue hybrids (not blue/purple like Aether or Coral)? If so, this may give you luck against Dueler. A few people, included me, used Apprentice.

Dueler was very tough for me too... Took down fire, air, apprentice, mage, mama, fairy, sky, old trinket.... But I tried that one again and FINALLY defeated Dueler with Old trinket 7!!! This is getting challenging! We'll see how last 10 rounds go... Don't have diamonds or champs.

Apprentice wasn't able to beat Dueler for me either. And I use the "close your eyes and leave it to chance" method of choosing a dragon when I'm fed up with losing to champs! Doesn't usually work though :(

This is a longer tournament so still plenty of time left. Its not a flash with a round 12 and 15 lvl20 champion. So dont throw in towel yet. Events have been the only for me to get new dragons because trying to breed is ridiculous. I think I have bred a total of 4 new dragon in the last 6 months to a year. Even then, I've missed 3/4 last tournaments by conditions stated previously regarding flashes.
If you complete an average of 6 battles a day, its a little easier to swallow. It's cruel though to get stuck for so long on these champion opponents. They have certainly earned their type. Which is why I feel every tournament prize should be a new champion/champion hybrid. I might be alone in that thought though.
My bolder opinions I will keep to myself. I don't know what drives me to continue down this path but I still do a happy dance with each new dragon I receive, as rare as it might be anymore.
I hope you all get the prize. This tournament has been much improved over the last several aside from the re-release one with no champion. I have been much less stressed with this tournament so far but still ended up using an entire day on round 20. Maybe it just seems easier after that brutal day 10 tales. However, I am digressing so I will end here.

I have experienced that "mirror matches" typically result in my favor. I just usually don't have the dragons involved in the tournament aside from basics like RS, diamond/hybrids, and event prizes. When I reach RS I will give that a go. Thank you for suggestion:) I will report back. I don't forsee any real issues with completing tournament this time around aside from traveling for holiday weekend.

The main dragons I use for tournament are:
Diamond 15 (x2 my "go-to" choice 1st)
Divine 15
Warrior Princess 15 (my other "go-to")
Fire 15
Dame of Darkness 15
Water 10 (can usually defeat champs with this guy and his name is Stitch)

And when I get stuck on champions after exhausting all those I head to the forums to see what others have tried. Honestly these forums are completely necessary for this app. I think that is good and bad. Good in that most players are helpful, bad in that this much research and reading shouldn't be required.

This app's events require an extensive amount thinking and planning ahead to complete. I am grateful to those who post the crucial info needed for completing events like tales. Even if there have been mistakes at times, the time invested in those guides is much appreciated and I know I would never be able to complete those events without that guidance.

It would be nice though if more player feedback reached developers in a timely fashion and then taken into consideration to help "improve" the player experience. Not just "make changes". Sometimes I feel as if I am battling against the developers in the sense of extremely difficult events (20 bottled moon, early lvl 20 champions that can't be beat without ultimate). There are just a lot of game mechanics I would like to see an "improvement" on, not just "changed". This current tournament has been an improvement over recent ones. Thank you for that. Less stressful event, especially on a holiday weekend is a welcomed change of pace. Thank you again.

jagerjag wrote somewhere in this thread she did it all tourney where she had the dragon and it was 100% successful. I find it works sometimes for me. RS worked, Dueler didn't. :) I always use Infinity against Infinity too. Good luck!

I don't know about 100% but the win rate in a mirror is usually quite high. Again, I just dont have all the dragons involved in tournaments. I don't have access to arctic isles yet; so no ice mirror matches for me, but diamond works well against them. I see a lot of dragons I've never had available to me.

Question regarding your quote and number of unique dragons: how do you get that info? Do you go through your entire island and keep a spreadsheet? I am just curious about that as I have seen quite a few players with that information in their signatures.

Well, 1st try with Rainbow Sentinel against Rainbow Sentinel (mirror match) lost miserably. I did hardly any damage and it knocked my health to a sliver on 2nd hit. It just needed to sneeze on my poor dragon to K.O. 5 rounds and 3 days left, I'm not anticipating an issue. Good luck everyone.

Possibly, but I've never personally tried it. With Poseidon I got two Mercury's in less than a week.

Done!! Pokey egg in storage. Just wanted to share here: I did an experiment throughout this tournament with another of my 'whacky' theories : I mirrored the opponent and used the same dragon (when ever I had that dragon) regardless of levels. Can't explain why or how but the results were beyond my wildest expectations. Some examples are:
My lvl 7 dueler won against lvl 19 dueler.
My lvl 10 RS won against lvl 20 RS.
My lvl 7 Kunfu won against lvl 18 kungfu.
Lvl 10 Watermelon won against lvl 19 Watermelon .
Lvl 7 prime arcane won against lvl 20.

I am not bothering to write about the lower level opponents. This theory has worked 100% of times in this tournament.

May be something to keep in mind when stuck with an opponents??

So yeah, tried 2x for RS vs RS and the second time didnt even get opponent to half health. So that theory is shot. So far i have 6 losses against RS. Line for healing is getting long.

I was successful 1st try with my L15 Diamond. However yesterday in the tourney, Dueler wipped out my Diamond so many times (5 or 6) that I had to do an Ultimate to be able to progress in my Tales.

Water has been doing incredible things against pink dragons for me lately, so I'd suggest Water or any other blue hybrid ;)

Just have a look at my list, Balloon, Fool, Papa, Pansy, Pink Lotus and Watermelon all went down to Water on first try.

For those having trouble with Germany, try illusion if you have it. The colours purple and black are strong against it and illusion has both. After trying several others, I finally took Germany down with a level 8 illusion.

I had 9 losses to Dueler and beat it...only to have the game boot me out and it didn't count ��. Lost a total of 14 times and ultimated (instead of throwing my iPad across the room). Now I have 4 losses to RS and a healing line a mile long. I think when we get stuck on a dragon it should gradually lose strength. In reality no creature could battle and battle against fresh opponents without getting weaker. That's my two cents worth.

I have a theory tri-colours are weaker against champs that single element or bi-colours, simply because champs get +3 "strong against" type advantage when fighting tri-colours. Of course the other battle formula variables have to be taken into account as well, but it is a distinct advantage.

Mine *used to* be very strong, though. Anyway, other dragons don't seem to work for me any more, either. Only against champions in tournaments, though, I have no problem with the "daily battles".

Yes I have some gold and I dug my heels in of late and refuse to ultimate in the tourneys and since haven't won / finished the last three tournaments.
I have finally sent dueler to the mat but don't have many fighters left standing for the next horror rounds lol.

Agree. I'm not gonna use gold on tournaments either. I'm now playing them to get some gold from champs and not to win the dragons - this way I won't get too upset if I don't finish. Don't get me wrong, I do want the dragons, but the way they're making events right now is just too hard to get them sometimes..

Try to use colors you didn't use previously on the dragon you are stucked, I won against Dueler after 15 losses I think, finally lightning took him down !

It i to me. Maximum loss too me is 10. Not often. This past 6 months I have won one tounament, because of short time. 18 tournaments I don not even try. I can never win 8 round per day. I will give it two more try, then I will give up. I have no chance of winning the rest until tonight. I must win 10 per day to be able to get the dragon.

I totally understand where you are coming from and IMO this dragon is just not worth expending gold on.
For this tournament and the last couple I have experience what I believe is an acceptable amount of challenge, my first obstacle as the Dueller, I lost around 10 times and it was a Level 11 Air Dragon that did it for me, why I truly do not know why I chose it but after 10 defeats with Level 15 Champions, Primes and Level 15 Diamonds I started being a little random and it does work. The RS defeated me 5 times and a couple of others defeated me so all up 20 defeats but I still finished with 2 days to spare and I also was slow to coincide with the Tales.
This is different from other tournaments where I would be stuck for 2-3 days on one dragon only leaving me either just enough time without losses to win the dragon or spend gold.
Instead I choose to not spend money on this game, all too easy to accidentally waste it on gold traps, and not care too much if I do not finish a tournament and get angry at S8 if a technical glitch rob me of a Tales.

I finally took down Rainbow Sentinel late last night/early this morning. Had 24 losses against that one dragon and Xena the Warrior Princess finally took it down and that was her fourth attempt alone. After defeating the RS Xena again took the rest down in one bash each. I dont know what kind of algorithm is used but is certainly needs some adjusting. All my basic color dragons and all my dragons lvl12-15 with the exception of Xena are in line for healing. I am glad this was a 6 day tournament and was still able to finish and had hope I could finish. If this had been another flash tournament and ran into the same issue (looking at you round 12 lvl20 champions) I doubt my outcome would have been the same.
If this many people reading/voicing opinions on the forum, I am curious about the players who havent and miss the crucial info others have stated. I could not imagine going into a tales (especially the recent 20 bottled moon) without using the guides posted by users. I hope S8/TL really start to listen to the users feedback to help improve user experiences. There is a distinct difference between "change" and "improvement".

For those that made it through the tournament with "no issues" congratulations and hope that stays going strong for you. For those who have struggled to the point of frustration, we can hope that things will improve. I dont know about others or the majority (would require extensive statisical data gathering/analysis) but I have struggled greatly with past events to complete or where it "comes down to the wire (literally minutes prior to event end).
This app has been an uphill battle for me from the beginning but this year has been particularly difficult regarding tournaments and events in general. I have lots of availability where I can check dragons hourly (at least more time than average users) and even then I am struggling. So for those with busy lives and more "normal life commitments" I can't even imagine. This app has certainly moved away from "casual" playstyle.

You are not alone. It can be frustrating and annoying to have issues during these tournys. I have good and bad ones. I know it's easy for some to lightly chat about not having any problems and seem to get through them without major hiccups. I promise it won't last. You will have a time where you will get hopelessly stuck (my record 26 losses, one round) and there's not a dang thing you can do about it. I've suggested for years a cap on losses per round. Even 10 would be nice when you are in a particularly nasty tournament. I've had 3 dragons this time give me fits. Dueler was 1 1/2 days. RS a good half day and watermelon a day. That's why I don't enjoy the flash ones. Get stuck badly once and it's all over without gold.

My Rainbow Sentinel has been a beast with the these last rounds so far. I only had some little troubles with round 25, but my rainbow sentinel beat it on it's 2nd or 3rd try. I also had little troubles with dueler and blue peacock

Along with most others RS is a thorn in my side. Running out of time and even if I do finally beat him I don't think I have anyone left to fight with....they are all taking a spa day, lol. I do want this dragon but not going to deplete my gold trying to get it. Good luck to those still fighting!!

Finally after 2 days I took down RS, with Air Bb (his 4/5 attempt) there's about 15 dragons in my spar, and with only 9 hrs left on the clock, I don't think there's enough time to complete grrrrr. I really wish I had a champion or diamond in my ranks......

After 25 or so tries, I finally got RS with fire level 10 Bb. Got watermelon with black pearl level 10, and Germany with neon level 10.

There is no way I am spending gold on this even though it is only 5 rounds away from the final dragon. It is really sad to see these responses. This has happened multiple times yet there are no improvements made for a better user experience. This is not a hardcore jrpg played on a dedicated game console /computer where players spend 100s of hours completing to 100% for all the bonus items/accesories.
This is an app on mobile devices that people try to use to pass time or try to relieve some stress. Everything should be able to be completed across all devices equally while taking factors of life in consoderation when designing the app and events.

For the first time in a couple of months, I finished a tournament!!!

After several losses to RS in round 25, I took him out with Fire 13. Same Fire for the next round (Watermelon), then several losses against Germany (including the suggestions from here: Spirit Queen and Knightmare) and a win against Germany by Divine 15. Divine also won the last 3 rounds very very easily, two hits maximum, the last round just one B.

So I guess my tri-colors (at least Divine) are still good and strong dragons, just not against champs.

Users like you who do not have champion dragons are the exact reason why every tournament should include a champion/champion hybrid as a prize. It only makes sense that a battle tournament offers a battle dragon as a reward, right? Make the last round a difficult with a champion (within reason) not have 2 rounds with nearly indestructable opponents and a much weaker "final boss". Seriously, does this sound like a tournament boss?

There used to be a Champion tournament prize pretty often, as in, once every 6 weeks or something like that, back when Android didn't have the Battle Arena. The last Champion prize was Centurion, I think. As an Android player, I have three champs, Rose Knight that I got on a Wheel last year, Centurion itself, and Rainbow Sentinel which I recently bought. Never could win any of the previous tournaments that had champions as prizes, and there haven't been any others since. There really should be another champ tournament prize to give newer players a better chance.

I'm relieved to finish this one! I got stuck on DS for a while, and was starting to think I wouldn't get past him - but Spirit Warrior came through for me. Even after deleting and reloading the game, I am still stuck on R25 RS. I will not be finishing this tourney. I have nearly 500 gold but will not be using it to ULT after my experience with the Bottles/quest and now this. This was some experience.

Lucky I only need 4 more parts for the crafting. Hopefully I can win 4 battles before the 7/5 deadline.

I have a L15 Diamond, L15 RS, and many many others more than L10. I have a most of the Champs. I used all the single colors too. I tried all the listed dragons in this forum. I tried many more than once. Nothing got past L20 RS.

I've been on R25 since Friday. It is now Sunday near midnight.

I use these games to unwind and DS has become anything but fun lately and has added stress.

Yes, even though many of us have too many champions already (but still losing tournaments lol), they should keep releasing champions for those who need them. Re-releasing old ones is fine too, I can just sit it out and relax.

+1. I've only been playing for about 8 months and only have the 1 (Prize Fighter) that could be obtained without purchase. Haven't had the availability in the roost very often due to the high volume of Limited's I don't have to try for Valiant more than 5 times.

On the last night of this tournament with only a few hours left and losing to the last round twice (?), I was planning on using my supreme dragon on the next try but I fell asleep and woke up like 2(?) hours later. I was a little mad at myself for falling asleep and missing the chance to get the prize......or so I thought because last night I found the dragon in my storage ??? There's no problem only confusion because I have no recollection of winning the dragon (Maybe I won the round and I was just very out of it and forgot it).. Either way I'm pleased that I was able to make it to the last round of a tournament, let alone win without spending gold :) (the Dueler and sorcerer tournaments were the only ones I've won since playing but only with the help of gold)

Congratulations on winning the Tournament! I've done something similar, won Fog in the tournament and had no clue! I think I was (a) Tired (b) so used to losing that particular last round that I paid no attention to the result, just assumed I had been beaten for the 20th time lol
